Quotes that have inspired me, made me laugh, or simply struck a chord.
My latest favourite:-
“You get self-esteem by doing esteemable acts” (Francine Ward)
I have adored this Lewis Carroll quote since i was a child. To me it is just perfect:-
Alice laughed. “There’s no use trying,” she said, “one can’t believe impossible things.”
“I daresay you haven’t had much practice,” said the Queen. “When I was your age, I always did it for half-an-hour a day. Why sometimes I believed as many as six impossible things before breakfast!” (My all time favourite from Alice in Wonderland, The Great Lewis Carroll)
About love and children:-
“Love isn’t finding a perfect person. It’s seeing an imperfect person perfectly”. (Sam Keen, Philospher)
“At work, you think of the children you have left at home. At home, you think of the work you’ve left unfinished. Such a struggle is unleashed within yourself. Your heart is rent.” (Golda Meir, Israeli Prime Minister, 1989-1978)
“Making a decision to have a child-it’s momentous. It is to decide forever to have your heart go walking around outside your body.” (Elizabeth Stone, Author)
About the foolishness of striving for perfection and life’s journey:-
“The most valuable thing you can make is a mistake – you can’t learn anything from being perfect”. (Adam Osborne, Entrepreneur)
“It all happens for a reason. If it’s been put on you, then that means you can carry it” (Tony Gaskins)
“Life is far too important a thing ever to talk seriously about.” (Oscar Wilde)
“You never know how strong you are until being strong is your only choice” (Anon)
About writing:-
” The trouble with words is you don’t know whose mouth they’ve been in”. (Dennis Potter)
“There’s nothing to writing. All you do is sit down at a typewriter and open a vein. (Walter Wellesley “Red” Smith, Sport’s Writer)
So, good question, are all working mum’s hearts for rent? I know I panic at the end of my 3 day working week, as I’m on my way home (late as usual) with a million and one things racing round, knowing that, if I have forgotten/been unable to do something, it’ll remain undone ’til Monday. Perhaps with disastrous consequences. Yet, the joy I feel knowing I am about to have my ‘mummy time’ is unparalleled.
“Love isn’t finding a perfect person. It’s seeing an imperfect person perfectly”.
I like this 🙂
“The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few”
Not Marx, not Engels, not even Lenin but Mr Spock, first officer Starship Enterprise. A true design for life.
Golda. Clever lady.
