About me

My name is Henrietta Pretty. I am 35. I used to work as a Marketing Manager, and I was pretty successful. Then I had kids, and realised you couldn’t have it all.

Changes in my life over the past few years have really made me think. Who I am, what I want, what I believe. What my priorities are.

This blog is all about thinking and debating and formulating an opinion. Nothing is off limits.

It’s about trying to make sense of the world, with all its dichotomies and contradictions. It’s just having a conversation, and showing an interest.

It’s all about the words.

I love your collection of tags – the distance between stupidity and truth … right over to overeating 🙂 that and ALL

Greetings from New Zealand 🙂 As someone who is on mat leave from her marketing manager role and is on the brink of chucking it all in to stay at home, and is doing the whole mental gymnastics around that change, what a delight to find your blog 🙂

I, too, am in a marketing kind of job, AND I stayed at home with my kids for 8 great years. Don’t be afraid to make the change and doubt your ability to get back into it when the time is right for you. I am delighted to be back at work now that my kids are older (13 and 10) but am very grateful that I was able to be with them. Do what is right for you and give it your heart and soul. Sometimes I was bored witless and was desperate to get out into the tough working world again but now I wish I had more time for my kids. We really do want it all, don’t we?

I too left the career ladder – was Deputy Head in a primary school – now I have time to garden – which I should be doing right now! lol! OK 5 more minutes here!

I am in the same boat as you, as are many others. Thats the beauty of the blog and networking, we find each other online. I don’t meet like minded ppl at play groups. I am a teacher and quit to become a childminder so I could stay at home with my kids and still earn. But after my 2nd (+2 step kids) I couldn’t even do that as well. Now my youngest is 1 and I am trying to find evening teaching. Its hard to get back into your career, but it will happen when they get a little older. xo

Thanks for finding me. Sounds like we have a fair bit in common there. Am adding you to my reader – always nice to find another one of us in cyberspace.

    Hi Henrietta,

Someone alerted me to this blog as we have similar sounding names.

I’ve only just set my blog up, just before New Year so I can change the name of mine no problem – although not sure to what, will have to get my thinking cap on! I now see yours is well and truly established and don’t want to tread on anyones toes.

I used to be a marketing manager too and am now a SAHM.

Looks a great blog, I’ll have a proper look later and follow you.

    Heather x
