A Milk retrospective

13 May

What happens to the posts we write?

People read them for a few days, and then perhaps occassionally, if you’re lucky, someone might chance upon them through a random search on google. (in my case searches on “David Essex” don’t do me too badly.)

It seems a shame.

You might pour out your heart. Be more honest than you’ve ever been, or even wish that you had. You reach heights of wit and comedy you didn’t think possible of yourself. Change the world, in your own small way.

And then they’re lost. Consigned to the last page of your blog. Purposeless and alone.

It doesn’t seem quite right.

So i’ve decided, when the mood takes me, to sneak in a Milk retrospective or two.

Give new readers a chance to read posts they missed, or loyal readers great reminiscing fodder.

Some of you might see it as laziness or a symptom of blogger’s block.

Some might find it boring. Repetitive.

I disagree. But indulgent? Definitely.

I suspect fellow bloggers might nod their heads in agreement.

So why not resurrect your favourite posts? Revel in repetition. Milk a little retrospection.

You might just be surprised by what you find. Just how far you’ve come on your journey.

In any case, let’s get back to David Essex.

(Did anyone see that picture of him in last week’s Saturday Guardian? Phwaor!)

    I think that’s a very good idea.

Would you like to go back through my archives for me?! This is my 3rd bloggy year – I can’t even remember if I ever wrote a good post to retro-link to!

well you could just pick a date (perhaps this day from last yr/2 yrs ago) and reflect on it. or just repost it for posterity. i bet things have changed a lot for you.

That’s a very good idea – thank you. Look out for that soon!

I think it is a great idea. I posted ‘Cheers’ for one of the Gallery themes & then was a ble to used it with a changed title for Alphabe. I reach completely different audiences with both those weekly activities so I don’t think there is anything wrong in it! Hurrah!
Love the idea of picking a date a year ago & reflecting – will do when I’m that old!

David Essex? Really? Oh well, each to their own. I can never remember who I had crushes on, well apart from Morten Harket, the non-twin from Bros and Andrew Ridgley but they’re not very original are they? I only started blogging last Christmas (omg accidental Wham reference, maybe I’m not over Andrew after all) but I totally agree with you. I love some of the posts that I’ve written and not sure if anyone actually read the first ones, apart from my sister maybe. I’ll have to go back and check them out!

please do. i’ve only been blogging 2 months, and i’m already sad thinking noone will ever read my early posts!
And just to put the record straight. i don’t fancy David essex now. it was a hormonal, messed up teenage crush!
oh – and morten – ROAR!

That’s a great idea – I’ve been looking back through mine, I’m trying to compile a print out of the last year of posts and it has reminded me of some great ones

David Essex? Phwoar? I really hope you’re joking….

I’ve actually already done this, and in my case it was down to a severe case of bloggers block. Also to be fair I liked the post and had published it before anyone was really reading my blog.

It’s a good idea I think. People that have already read it are not obliged to read it again are they…

    oohh yes, David Essex 😀

I occasionally refer back to old blog posts in new blog posts and have posted some old post links on other people’s articles/blogs if they are relevant but I’ve been blogging less that a year so a lot of them could still be current 🙂

Does seem like a good idea, I already feel post written just a few days ago getting lost in swamps of other stuff that’s out there … but that’s the free blogging system.

But yeah, maybe after I’ve been at this awhile I’ll post best of.

Also might reorganize my page into to three since I’ve three different main topics … I’m new to this stuff

I'm all about the debate. Would love to hear what you think.
